Pregnant & Under Lock Down
I did not plan to be pregnant in a pandemic.
There's no way to plan for this pandemic and it is proving to be a jarring lesson to go with the flow. Maybe learning to go with the flow. Maybe in the end, that will be a good thing.
While I am doing my best to self quarantine and not leave the house unless it's absolutely essential. I am almost at the end of the 2nd trimester of pregnancy, which means sooner or later I am going to be visiting the doctor every four to six weeks, which is probably the worst place to be right now. The estimated worst case scenario is that between one hundred and sixty million to two hundred and fourteen million people in the United States could be infected with the corona virus during this pandemic - which means it could become hard to avoid even if I am discerning about when I venture outside.
The CDC / Health Department does not get people there test results back right away, which poses its own threat. In addition, they do not have many answers about the dangers it poses to pregnant women and their babies.
Amid this absence of information, I am already thinking about my next trip to the grocery store - a place that has a post apocalyptic air about it - to purchase more diapers and wipes. I mean my concern is will there even be newborn diapers available once I delivery. The way things are going - one can only hope!
I am forced to accept that I cannot plan for everything; I do not have any choice but to be agile - no one knows what the world will look like in the next four months. But then again, we live in unprecedented time. Amid climate change and the Trump presidency, we do not know what the world will look like in 10 years, let alone next year. We have children not because we know we can usher them through the world safely, but despite all the uncertainty; we do what we can and then hope for the best, hope that we're bringing people into the world who will not only learn to navigate its dangerous on their own, but also help fix it for future generations.
